Sun Oven Baking Project @ Emthonjeni Community Centres

Bread Companions partnered with Emthonjeni Community Centre and will be starting a bakery that will be utilizing a Villager Sun Oven to bake bread, cakes and pastries that will be sold to the community. In 2011 twelve (12) “entrepreneurs" from Zandspruit community was trained in basic business management skills.

Seniors FUN WALK in Zandspruit

Emthonjeni Community Centres in partnership with Zandspruit Clinic organised a seniors FUN WALK on the 17th February 2012.

The goal and objective of this event was to create community wellness through exercising no matter what age you are.

Before the FUN WALK all the seniors’ blood pressure and sugar levels were tested by Zandspruit Clinic after which they started with their “pilgrimage walk” to Emthonjeni Community Centres.

Through various donation Emthonjeni Community Centres is able to develop and create a process of community wellness awareness through cycling and have a facility and equipment of quality that will create a cycling community of pride and hope.

Six men from the community of Zandspruit will be having a cycling FUNDAY on the 25 February 2012.

Estelle 'n Finalis vir Mev. S.A. 2011

Die Partnership Developer vir Emthonjeni Community Centres, Mev. Estelle Mengel, is op 4 September aangewys as 'n finalis vir Mev. Suid-Afrika 2011. 

Estelle, wat vir die meeste van haar volwasse lewe by welsynswerk betrokke is, het vir die kompetisie ingeskryf om aandag te vestig op die behoeftes in gebiede in en om Johannesburg wat deur armoede getref is.

"Ek glo armoede gaan nie net oor fisiese tekorte nie, maar sluit ook 'n tekort aan geleenthede in. Ek is passievol daaroor om 'n positiewe verskil te maak in hierdie gemeenskappe en om hoop aan die mense te bring. Ek glo hulle het almal die reg op 'n gelukkige toekoms" sê Estelle.

Baie geluk Estelle, ons wens jou net die beste toe vir die kompetisie wat in November plaasvind.

Emthonjeni: CELEBRATING MANDELA DAY WITH THE ZANDSPRUIT SENIORS

Emthonjeni Community Centres in partnership with NOWETO NEWS PAPER celebrated Mandela day with 46 seniors from the Zandspruit community. July 18^th 2011 is the day that seniors of Zandspruit will forever remember. The morning started with a wonderful surprise from our region Councillor Maureen Scheeman who along with other people from North point church paid a visit to our seniors and gave them blanket.

Die Amerikaanse Presidentsvrou, Michelle Obama, het op Dinsdag 21 Junie die Golang laerskool by die Emthonjeni Gemeenskapsentrum in Zandspruit besoek. Me. Obama, wat vergesel was deur haar twee dogters, Malia en Sasha, en haar ma, Marian Robinson, het die skool besoek om vir die kinders van Golang te lees. Die fokus van haar besoek aan Suider Afrika val op jeug-leierskap, gesondheid en opvoeding.

Na hulle aankoms om 15:30, is hulle begroet deur die kinders met 'n paar liedjies. Na die warm verwelkoming het Me. Obama vir die kinders gesê dat hulle vir die skool 'n geskenk gebring het: "Ons het vir julle baie boeke gebring, van my gunstelinge, van die president se gunstelinge, van Malia en Sasha se gunsteling boeke. Maar ons wil vir julle een van ons gunsteling boeke lees." Die Obama's het 200 boeke aan die skool geskenk.

Die Presidentsvrou en haar twee dogters, wat op blou plastiek stoeltjies gesit het, met die kinders voor hulle op die gras, het vir hulle Dr. Suess se The Cat in the Hat gelees. Net voor hulle vertrek het die hele familie saam speletjies gespeel en in 'n groot sirkel gedans, terwyl die kinders hulle 'n paar kwaito en pantsula dansies geleer het.

Vroeër die dag het die Obama's die Nelson Mandela Stigting besoek, en hulle het selfs 'n verrassings-uitnodiging gekry om Mnr. Mandela te besoek by die voormalige president se huis in Houghton.

Emthonjeni: Mosaiek Missional Expressions Pilgrimage to Zandspruit

On Sat, 4 June 2011, about 17 Mosaiek members travelled to Zandspruit as part of a Missional Expressions Pilgrimage to distribute food from the iCAN project.  Zandspruit is a community of about 100 000 people which 70% are unemployed.  It was truly a humble and Godly experience to assist so many families, who faces so many challenges on a daily basis, with food.
